In High Tide or Low Tide, where will you be?

Of course it is yet another night that I am just kicking it listening to some Bob Marley and the song, "High Tide or Low Tide" came on and how inspiring it is. For those of you who are not familiar with the song here is part of the chorus.

In high tide or in low tide,
I'll be by your side,
I'll be by your side.

What does this even mean. It means that in the good times and the bad times. I will be by your side. No matter what trials come your way. I will be by your side. Isn't that true with God? The one who loves us unconditionally? No matter in the good times or the bad times he is always there. How comforting it is to know that.

What an example that is for us. I know that it can be easy when times get tough with friends or family to back away from the problem. But just as God never leaves, so we should do the same for one another. To be there to help each other when we stumble. This life is tough enough. Lend a loving hand.

I Never Learned alot of Math, but the Only Concept that Matters is Addition

Congratulations to Emily and David (My sister and broheim-in-law) on the exciting new addition to their family due in July. What a blessing this nino will be not only to Emily and David, but to me and the rest of my family. I will be an Uncle, even if I felt I needed to take a class on "How to be an Uncle 101" I am excited for this future bundle of joy.

The Final Countdown

The sun is shining,
The grass is green,
The spring air is warm,
The bats are anxious,
The baseballs sit in anticipation,
Waiting for the words to be shouted for all to hear,
Play Ball!
Baseball is finally here.

The anticipation for the spring season has nearly come to an end. With less than a week to go till our first game. The anticipation in my heart is growing. My favorite time of the year is finally here. Time to grab my glove, lace my cleats, pull down my hat, step between the baselines, kick the dirt on the rubber, settle my foot softly next to the rubber. and deliver my long anticipated pitch for the spring season of baseball.

The gang of ball players from different backgrounds and regions, finally going to unite for the upcoming season as the San Diego Christian College Hawks.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." -Ephesians 2:8-10 (Seasons Verse)

My A.C.E. Will Beat Your Royal Flush Any Day of the Week

Throughout my life I have learned three things. 1.) God showed His unconditional love for me by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for me, a sinner, who did not deserve it. 2.) I am blessed to have a loving and supportive family that I love unconditionally. 3.) Baseball is not an easy sport. It is a game of failure, a man succeeds 3 out of 10 times and is considered an All-Star, A 70% career failure rate could find him in the Hall of Fame. As a pitcher I basically control the game, without a pitcher the game is not played. Even with all this control, there are still things that I can not control. Errors being made in the field, a guy hits a homerun on a change up that was almost in the dirt, etc. This can frustrate almost anyone, but I was taught by my coach three key things in my life that I can control when anything happens, and that is my A.C.E..

A-(Attitude)
C-(Concentration)
E-(Effort)

When my mother asks me how it never seems like I am nervous on the mound, I simply respond, "I just don't think." The only thing I think about is that "My A.C.E is in place!" I must go out there with a positive attitude that says no one can beat me, but more importantly that I am an agent of Christ disguised as a baseball player. My attitude reflects my character. Attitude is everything, it shows people who you are. Proverbs 22:1 says, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." I am no good to my team if I am on the mound complaining about every little thing, a bad call by the umpire, errors in the field being made behind me, etc.. It says in Philippians 2:12, "Do everything without complaining or arguing." I can not control those things that happen on the field, but I can control how I respond to these things. Concentration is the second aspect of my A.C.E.. A good athlete is focused on the task at hand, even in our personal lives we must stay focused. While on the mound I forget about anything going on around me, whether its people yelling, "We want a pitcher not a belly itcher" on dollar beer night, or a cute girl in the stands. I need to rid myself of these distractions and focus on the task at hand, throwing strikes, hitting my spots, and ultimately getting the hitter out. Even in my personal life I must be focused and rid my life of the distractions of the world and focus on being an agent of Christ. The last component of my A.C.E. is my effort. Pitching half-hearted is pointless, you do that you won't even make it through the 1st inning. Everytime I step on the bump, part of my witness is not only my attitude, but my effort. What kind of example am I setting as a Christian athlete if I only pitch half-heartedly. God calls us to do everything to the best of our abilities. He calls us to do great things. Colossians 3:17 says, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." When I pitch, that is my sacrifice, or offering that I am giving to God. In a sacrifice you bring your best lamb, or best crops. Win or lose, my offering to God through baseball is my effort, did I give all that I have win or lose? I want to ensure everytime I step out on that mound, not only am I giving my team my best effort, but I must give my best effort to God also.

My A.C.E. is the only thing I can control when I go out on the mound, and in my daily walk. So remember to keep your A.C.E. in place. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." -1 Corinthians 10:31
